Aruna :‘Prince’ has taken the biggest opening ever of Vivek's career

Prince has taken a good start all over and in the process has shocked the trade as well as industry in general. This 'almost comic book' actioner is not just Vivek Oberoi's biggest ever opener but also third best for Bollywood this year after Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan and Salman Khan's Veer. In a season which was reeling with failures and only had an occasional Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge or Love Sex Aur Dhokha, a medium and low budget film respectively, enjoying a face saving outing at theatres, a big budget movie like Prince showing sparks of resurgence at the box office has been a welcome sign indeed.

Says an obviously excited Vivek Oberoi, "This has been truly humbling. There was a sense of definite positive energy that I could experience before the release of the film. With some terrific promotion preceding the film, I could gauge that there were quite a few waiting to catch Prince in theatres. I am told by trade experts that the film's opening is one of the best in recent times. Great, and now as the figures are coming in, we can see it all by ourselves."

Aruna Shields

Aruna Shields, British actor Aruna Shields, of Anglo Indian descent, began her primary education at a convent school before achieving an academic scholarship to study at a UK boarding school. She later gained a distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Aruna also obtained a degree from Central St Martins, London. Aruna was first spotted and signed by an acting agent while at a theatrical workshop in England.

Her earlier work includes touring in theatre for over a year and writing and performing the difficult Geordie role of Tracy for the short film Violent Lesson, shot by the BBC. She has also done the lead role of Neera in the art-house film Mr. Singh/Mrs. Mehta, a quirky film about a young girl dealing with infidelity (the film is in post production), experimental shorts, including underwater film Live Bait shot at Pinewood studios and Mission Improbable (2007). Aruna was also cast in the lead role of Saira, an innocent girl with a naughty side in the comedy My Private Moments (2005) and also a dream girl in Ali G Indahouse (2002).
Aruna Shields was not shy about the kissing or bikini scenes in Prince because she has done a few graphic sex scenes in Jagmohan Mundhra’s My Private Moments.

In the action thriller Prince, out in cinemas this week, she is a tough espionage agent Maya. She performed all her own stunts, including bike bungee jumps and free falls. Bold and fearless stunts by Aruna made the whole cast and crew go ga-ga over her daring attitude. Aruna is qualified in stunts like fire-arms, martial arts, cables, bikes and cars, scuba diving, sky riding and gymnastics. Aruna is well-versed not only in adventure sports, but she has also got her feminine side intact with dancing skills like belly dancing, dancing with snakes and flamenco.

Plot: Vivek is a thief who commits the biggest heist of his life only to wake up next morning with a gun shot wound and complete memory loss. He discovers, his name is Prince and his girlfriend’s name is Maya. Hunted by the secret services and criminals, Vivek has just five days to find the loot.

Expectations: The music has caught on in a big way but on the minus side is Vivek whom the public isn’t too fond of. The film should open well in single-screen cinemas but multiplexes would have to wait for the verdict of the first-day audiences.

We've been hectic the past two weeks - celebrating Raj's Birthday; the releases of Prince and Paathshala; our Radio 2 Show; the launch of Rifco Arts new musical - Britain's Got Bhangra; coping with all flights in the UK being grounded; and then Raj falling ill.
Prince is fast and furious with lots of thrills and spills - a kind of Bollywood meets The Bourne Identity meets James Bond meetsDon meets Dhoom 2. The film has surprised the pundits and has had a massive opening in India - second only to MNIK.
Vivek Oberoi is back as a star who can open a film on his name alone - do watch it if you are into crime capers. British starlet Aruna Shields stands out as the Lara Croft type co-star. Vivek rocks.
Director Kooki Gulati is pleased at the opening and is all praises for the dedication shown by Vivek especially in all the high-octane stunt scenes. But the true star of the show that helps sets the movie apart is the fantastic music director Sachin Gupta. The former rock band composer who hails from a family of doctor's told us that the super hit song 'Tere Liye' is based on his unresolved love life and he will be continuing to write songs from his broken heart. Bless him!
One person that should be questioning his choices is Shahid Kapoor - his last mega hit was Jab We Met with ex Kareena. This week saw the release of the lackluster Paathshala. Yet again, we see him playing a teacher in this one. Whilst the message of the film is an honest and commendable one, it does lack what we all love in a Bollywood Blockbuster - the love story. Ayesha Takia gives a safe performance whilst Shahid really need not pick roles like this after showing how skilled he is as an actor in Kaminey. The concept is worthy - the abuse of schoolchildren, but the film leaves you cold.
We are over the moon with the success of Radio 2's "From Hollywood to Bollywood" for Friday Night is Music Night. The prestigious BBC Concert Orchestra were joined by Kuljit Bhamra and singer Sangeeta and performed live from the LSO St Luke's for a salutation of some of the greatest Indian inspired soundtracks from Hollywood and some of the greatest hits from Bollywood.
