Adultery will always be there: Aruna Shields

aruna mr singh mrs mehta Aruna Shields has grabbed many eyeballs with her nude scenes in the upcoming movie Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta. But she would not want the focus to shift from the film and its main theme of extramarital affairs to her steamy scenes. Her own take on extramarital affairs is quite impressive.

“I don’t agree with (extramarital) affairs as they cause pain and secrets in relationships...but people will always have them and for a variety of usually selfish and complicated reasons: neglect, insecurity, boredom, midlife crisis, weakness, excitement, stupidity, loneliness, revenge,” Aruna reveals in an interview. In the movie Aruna plays Neera, a girl from small town who is an agony aunt columnist.

She advices others on their relationship and discovers that her husband is cheating on her. Thereafter, she too has an affair with another man. “Neera has her affair out of loneliness, despair and confusion. Also her conscience is relieved because she knows her husband is also cheating on her!” Aruna justifies her character’s infidelity in the film. Aruna made her Bollywood debut as an action babe in the Vivek Oberoi-starrer Prince. “From a high action film like Prince to a film based purely on relationships, you can say that it has been quiet a jump.

I’ve been blessed to have done a variety of different roles so early on in my career,” says the British hottie who has also done theatre and acted in the stone-age flick ‘AO: The Last Neanderthal’. Starring Prashant Narayanan opposite Aruna, Mr Singh Mrs Mehta is set to release on June 25.

Pravesh Bharadwaj's wife upset over nude scenes in Mr Singh

Bollywood director Pravesh Bharadwaj's wife is upset with her husband over the nudity in his film Mr Singh Mrs Mehta, which stars Aruna Shields and Prashant Narayanan.

Though the censor board has passed all the nude scenes and love sequences between Aruna Shields and Prashant Narayanan in the film with an 'A' certificate, the director's wife Shruti Nagar (who works with Rajshri Productions) has objected to the way the director has repeatedly caught the couple in intimate postures all through the film.

There are three lengthy lovemaking scenes in Mr Singh Mrs Mehta.

The director's wife feels her husband has overdone the sex and nudity. Apparently she has made her displeasure amply clear to her husband.

Pravesh said: "There is one particular lovemaking sequence to which my wife Shruti reacted very strongly. Yes, Shruti did object saying, Ek aadh scene hota to koi baat nahin par yahan to puri film iske hi ird-gird ghoom rahi hai (one odd scene would have been fine, but the entire film revolves around this)."

"She was very upset about the subject matter itself. There is a sequence in the film where Neera (Aruna Shields) undresses in a way that her clothes come off one by one. Shruti, my wife thought I should tone it down."

Pravesh did reconsider his approach to nudity, kissing and lovemaking. "It did make me rethink but it was a critical sequence in the film. I think she is upset that her husband made a film where nudity is central to the story itself. Actually she doesn't approve of the script and the reason being nudity."

The director admits the nudity content is over-the-top. And the censors suggested that the lady's bare back be blurred.

The director hopes that the bare flesh is not misconstrued to be meant for titillation.

"The film has been written for the average Indian viewer. I know I am taking a risk and I hope they get the point. otherwise I fail. but I am confident it gets across."

Pravesh feels the censor board has demonstrated a deep maturity in passing the film.

"We did have more than one revising committee screenings and lots of anxious moments. But if you ask me I would like to send a bouquet to censor board. No scene has been snipped."

"I am quite relieved that film was cleared. I was very nervous and afraid as people around me started counting the kisses also. I did not have the budget to shoot alternate shots so depending on the clearance either I had a film on hand or none," he said.

"I have shot the film in a certain manner where cutting out a sequence or faster cutting of certain scenes would have killed my narrative style," he added.

Interview with Aruna

Tell us more about your character Neera Singh
Neera is evolving throughout the story. At the beginning she's a young innocent, naive girl who has recently got married and is besotted by her husband. As she discovers he is cheating on her, her world is shattered and her journey of self-discovery begins. Her ideals and life philosophy are challenged throughout. She eventually has her own affair, later she allows herself to be a muse and painted naked ...and in doing grows in confidence, her body language changes and she becomes more extroverted. She blossoms into an independent woman who can take on the world.
Do you relate to a character like Neera?
I related to Neera on many levels going back to when I was an insecure teenager, remembering and transferring those experiences in my own life which changed me. Remembering my behaviour and thought processes when I had been hurt in relationships. I often used subtle physicality to express her feelings
Working in hindi language must have been difficult.
Yes it was. The words are not important to me... it is the feelings behind the words which count. But in order to allow emotions to flow you can't be fishing for lines as it takes you out of the moment...so I had a HUGE task making sure I knew lines extremely well.
How was it working with an intense actor like Prashant Narayanan.
Prashant has a great personality, he's always laughing and happy and his positive energy is infectious. He is a great laugh, is down to earth and loads of fun. I will always remember on our last day we went driving in the Welsh countryside with the roof down at night. We took it in turns to stand up and scream Hindi words. Usually the ones I stuffed up on.
CHECK OUT: Aruna Shields goes nude
What has been your experience working in Bollywood so far?
What I love about Bollywood is it's energy and life. Mumbai has an strangely addictive quality and even though you're hot and bothered when you're there....when you leave you miss it's craziness. Everywhere you look there is a mini drama going on which is intriguing to watch. I have friends who have emigrated from England to Mumbai and when they come back to the UK they feel like they are entering utopia, everything runs smoother, however after a couple of weeks they get fidgety and bored.
My understanding of Bollywood is that it is The Matrix... a complex mystery, I have no idea why things happen the way they do and everything runs at a much faster pace. Everything is constantly changing...including scripts!!! I think I learnt 9 versions of PRINCE, last minute. I try to look on the bright side...it's good for the mind. Also I'm too busy learning lines so it keeps me out of trouble.
Any plans of making Mumbai your base?
I'm so proud to have had the opportunity to work in the incredible world of Bollywood cinema, and at such a high level. Depending on the scripts I will continue to consider work offers from India. Even so, I'm not a Bollywood actor but an international actor and would like to remain so. This means I have management in different countries (England, America, France and India) Regarding shifting base to one place, this is difficult because of the nature of my work. I'm a bit like a gypsy and travel all over. Maybe I will settle one day, I'll go with the flow and see what happens.
What are the other projects you are working on?
It's exciting times and I have the starring lead in studio feature film called AO THE LAST NEANDERTHAL releasing in September. It's a gritty beauty and the beast love story based 30,000 years ago.

Interview with Aruna Shields

British actor Aruna Shields, of Anglo Indian descent, begun her education at a convent school before winning an academic scholarship to attend boarding school. She went onto gain a distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She also obtained a degree from Central St Martins, London. Aruna's passion lay in performance and while at a theatrical workshop she was spotted by an acting agent.
Aruna has lead roles in studio feature films out worldwide in cinemas 2010:
She plays the challenging lead of AKI in the epic adventure AO: THE LAST NEANDERTHAL, a gritty beauty and the beast love story based 30,000 years ago. Film is expected to release in September 2010 and is produced by cinema chain UGC whose last film was the Oscar nominated A PROPHET.
Aruna launched to stardom overnight in Bollywood with her debut in action-thriller PRINCE. The press labeled her as India's new Bond girl. MR SINGH MRS MEHTA is her second Bollywood release.
Aruna Shields has gone for a complete image makeover with her new film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA, which releases on June 25. From a desi Bond babe, Shields has transformed herself into a girl-next-door from a small town in this film.

Tell us about your new film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA
MR SINGH MRS MEHTA which releases on June 25 is the directorial debut of Pravesh Bhardwaj who has assisted directors like Shyam Benegal and Gulzar and is produced by Medient. Set in London, MR SINGH MRS MEHTA is the story of Ashwin Mehta and Neera Singh who find that their spouses are having an affair. Drawn together by shame and anger, they find comfort in their growing friendship even as they resolve not to be like their unfaithful mates.
How do you view this whole issue of extramarital affairs which have become now so common in the modern society?
I don't agree with affairs as they cause pain and secrets in relationships...but

"Bollywood is a complex mystery"

people will always have them and for a variety of usually selfish and complicated reasons: Neglect, insecurity, boredom, midlife crisis, weakness, excitement, stupidity, loneliness, revenge. Neera has her affair out of loneliness, despair and confusion. Also her conscience is relieved because she knows her husband is also cheating on her! Every relationship is different and it's hard not to judge. Nobody is perfect. To make your relationship less vulnerable to an affair you really have to communicate, not take your partner for granted and respect each other.
What is you role in the film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA?
I play Neera Singh, a girl from small town who is an agony aunt columnist who advices others on their relationship and discovers that her husband is cheating on her. It's a film about relationships.
From desi bond girl to an agony aunt that's quite a jump in the range of role.
From a high action film like PRINCE to a film based purely on relationships, you can say that it has been quiet a jump. I've been blessed to have done a variety of different roles so early on in my career. I've played everything from femme fatale, girl next door, action hero to working class, even animalistic tribal woman. Even so, roles are easier to get when they are closer to what you actually are, because that's how you're perceived. Otherwise you have to work hard changing yourself and making it believable. Plus you're competing with other actors who naturally are that type with no effort. You can do it, I've done it but it takes preparation.
It's difficult changing your voice and physicality but extremely rewarding when the hard work pays off. You need good observational skills so you can watch how different people behave. Having intuition, spontaneity and trusting your choices is also important and has helped me a lot.
How did you get the part?
Pravesh was meeting actors from my agency at Pinewood studios and asked to see me. We met and we clicked. We went through sections of the script together. We communicated ideas about the script fluidly. Many actresses could have played my role and interpreted it in their way... but looking back I think I was chosen because I listened carefully to the director and we got on so well. He sensed I was very relaxed, laid back and relatively low maintenance which means less headaches and dramas for him. He knew I would work extremely hard and get the job done.

Aruna Shields : Nude scenes given green by Censor Board

According to reports, the Censor Board members were divided on this issue, but later decided to clear the movie with all all scenes.

The hot scenes and love sequences between Aruna Shields and Prashant Narayanan in the movie are doing rounds on YouTube.

All "nude scenes" in the movie have been passed uncut.

The scenes were so hot that director Pravesh Bhardawaj's wife Shruti Nagar objected to those, saying her husband has over-done the sex and nudity.

The movie got the much-needed publicity and it won't be a surprise if it generates more curiosity among the viewers.

The Censor Board has approved the alleged "nude scenes" made by London-based  Bollywood actress Aruna Shields in her second Hindi movie, "Mr Singh Mrs Mehta".

However, the Censor Board was generous in clearing the scenes.

806298224 Aruna Shields who debuted in India through prince, is upset with the country. According to her, the country is too backward for her. This remark came after the awkward comments she received in the mall, which requests name to be kept in dark, after the public surrounded her and told her some bad words, which were similar to whore. This is interesting to note that these remarks were based on the porn film which the producers released in India casts Aruna shields.

"I WOULD WANT TO STEAL MY AUDIENCE'S HEARTS!" - VIVEK OBEROI

Being a star son or daughter must have its advantages. However, it would be right to say that the expectations must outweigh the positives. Heartthrob Vivek Oberoi, son of renowned actor Suresh Oberoi, has had a significant fan-following since his debut in Company in 2002. Although the much-loved actor has not seen success quite in the same way as the likes of other star-sons in the Bollywood film fraternity, the audience reaction to his most recent offering, Prince, has put a permanent smile on his face. Vivek talks to BollySpice about the film, its leading ladies and more...
Bollywood's "Shahenshah" is Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan is known as the "Baadshah". Who is Bollywood's Prince?
(Laughs) It will take a lot of effort to take the title of "Prince of Bollywood". I have to prove that I am worthy of the title. There's a big difference between believing in something and actually making it happen. I have many critics and non-believers but I'm here because of those who do believe in me and I want to be able to live up to the faith people have put in me.
How did you feel about Prince as a final product?
I was very nervous! I have put in a lot of effort for this film – I did 5 months worth of training. If I hadn't had that training then the stunts in the film would have proved too dangerous for me to do. I couldn't wear a helmet or safety gear on my head. We have shot an action sequence on the edge of a cliff and although there were safety cables, the pre-training ensured that I was able to execute that shot and others perfectly. It was amazing to have specialists from all over the world come together for this film.
What made you sign a film like Prince as your comeback, so to speak?
In my career, I've had a number of comeback films. I've also had go-back films and never-comeback films (laughs) but I don't believe in this concept. Actors keep doing their films and sometimes they do down well but other times they just don't click. When you sign a film, you always think its formula will work. The whole idea of Prince was to create the kind of perspective that people hadn't seen before. Here's a man who is a professional thief and can steal anything... if you steal his memory, what happens?
What was it like romancing not one, not two but THREE ladies?
I'm a single guy so it was great! They are really good actresses and we have a lot of fun off the sets. We shot in Durban, South Africa, and it's a great place to party and we took advantage of that as much as we could. Aruna (Shields) and I did a lot of action in the film and it was a fun experience. It was very nice shooting with Aruna, Nandana and Neeru.
Rumour has it that you've found your princess...?
Oh I've found 3 princesses in Prince! Films sometimes get a boost with controversies but they can stop a film from selling. I think I will have to get married to escape these controversies. When I meet the right girl then I will get married. This Prince's princess will come in his life all by herself.
How do you feel about the audience's reaction to Prince and the controversies?
I personally feel that the audience is very smart. If they think the promo of a film is good, then they will definitely go to watch a film – no matter what kind of news surrounds it.
While promoting Prince, it's so nice to meet fans face-to-face. Even on Twitter, my fans have started calling me "Prince" and it feels nice. An actor feels good when he is known by his work, by his character. When you meet fans in person and, it's a different feeling altogether when they tell you they love you. It makes me feel like I have their support.
Finally, if you, like your character, could steal anything... what would it be?
I would want to steal my audience's hearts!!
Wow, this Prince has set his sights very high. We wish Vivek all the very best for Prince and look forward to his forthcoming film Rakta Charitra.

Aruna :‘Prince’ has taken the biggest opening ever of Vivek's career

Prince has taken a good start all over and in the process has shocked the trade as well as industry in general. This 'almost comic book' actioner is not just Vivek Oberoi's biggest ever opener but also third best for Bollywood this year after Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan and Salman Khan's Veer. In a season which was reeling with failures and only had an occasional Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge or Love Sex Aur Dhokha, a medium and low budget film respectively, enjoying a face saving outing at theatres, a big budget movie like Prince showing sparks of resurgence at the box office has been a welcome sign indeed.

Says an obviously excited Vivek Oberoi, "This has been truly humbling. There was a sense of definite positive energy that I could experience before the release of the film. With some terrific promotion preceding the film, I could gauge that there were quite a few waiting to catch Prince in theatres. I am told by trade experts that the film's opening is one of the best in recent times. Great, and now as the figures are coming in, we can see it all by ourselves."

Aruna Shields

Aruna Shields, British actor Aruna Shields, of Anglo Indian descent, began her primary education at a convent school before achieving an academic scholarship to study at a UK boarding school. She later gained a distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Aruna also obtained a degree from Central St Martins, London. Aruna was first spotted and signed by an acting agent while at a theatrical workshop in England.

Her earlier work includes touring in theatre for over a year and writing and performing the difficult Geordie role of Tracy for the short film Violent Lesson, shot by the BBC. She has also done the lead role of Neera in the art-house film Mr. Singh/Mrs. Mehta, a quirky film about a young girl dealing with infidelity (the film is in post production), experimental shorts, including underwater film Live Bait shot at Pinewood studios and Mission Improbable (2007). Aruna was also cast in the lead role of Saira, an innocent girl with a naughty side in the comedy My Private Moments (2005) and also a dream girl in Ali G Indahouse (2002).
Aruna Shields was not shy about the kissing or bikini scenes in Prince because she has done a few graphic sex scenes in Jagmohan Mundhra’s My Private Moments.

In the action thriller Prince, out in cinemas this week, she is a tough espionage agent Maya. She performed all her own stunts, including bike bungee jumps and free falls. Bold and fearless stunts by Aruna made the whole cast and crew go ga-ga over her daring attitude. Aruna is qualified in stunts like fire-arms, martial arts, cables, bikes and cars, scuba diving, sky riding and gymnastics. Aruna is well-versed not only in adventure sports, but she has also got her feminine side intact with dancing skills like belly dancing, dancing with snakes and flamenco.

Vivek Oberoi, Aruna Sheilds, Nandana Sen, Neeru Singh

Star cast: Vivek Oberoi, Aruna Sheilds, Nandana Sen, Neeru Singh

Plot: Vivek is a thief who commits the biggest heist of his life only to wake up next morning with a gun shot wound and complete memory loss. He discovers, his name is Prince and his girlfriend’s name is Maya. Hunted by the secret services and criminals, Vivek has just five days to find the loot.

Expectations: The music has caught on in a big way but on the minus side is Vivek whom the public isn’t too fond of. The film should open well in single-screen cinemas but multiplexes would have to wait for the verdict of the first-day audiences.

aruna shields,PAATHSHALA, PRINCE AND A CLOUD OF ASH

We've been hectic the past two weeks - celebrating Raj's Birthday; the releases of Prince and Paathshala; our Radio 2 Show; the launch of Rifco Arts new musical - Britain's Got Bhangra; coping with all flights in the UK being grounded; and then Raj falling ill.
Prince is fast and furious with lots of thrills and spills - a kind of Bollywood meets The Bourne Identity meets James Bond meetsDon meets Dhoom 2. The film has surprised the pundits and has had a massive opening in India - second only to MNIK.
Vivek Oberoi is back as a star who can open a film on his name alone - do watch it if you are into crime capers. British starlet Aruna Shields stands out as the Lara Croft type co-star. Vivek rocks.
Director Kooki Gulati is pleased at the opening and is all praises for the dedication shown by Vivek especially in all the high-octane stunt scenes. But the true star of the show that helps sets the movie apart is the fantastic music director Sachin Gupta. The former rock band composer who hails from a family of doctor's told us that the super hit song 'Tere Liye' is based on his unresolved love life and he will be continuing to write songs from his broken heart. Bless him!
One person that should be questioning his choices is Shahid Kapoor - his last mega hit was Jab We Met with ex Kareena. This week saw the release of the lackluster Paathshala. Yet again, we see him playing a teacher in this one. Whilst the message of the film is an honest and commendable one, it does lack what we all love in a Bollywood Blockbuster - the love story. Ayesha Takia gives a safe performance whilst Shahid really need not pick roles like this after showing how skilled he is as an actor in Kaminey. The concept is worthy - the abuse of schoolchildren, but the film leaves you cold.
We are over the moon with the success of Radio 2's "From Hollywood to Bollywood" for Friday Night is Music Night. The prestigious BBC Concert Orchestra were joined by Kuljit Bhamra and singer Sangeeta and performed live from the LSO St Luke's for a salutation of some of the greatest Indian inspired soundtracks from Hollywood and some of the greatest hits from Bollywood. Thank you to everyone who loved our interview with music maestro AR Rahaman. We will keep you posted!
This Friday at our Raj&Pablo's Bollywood Nights we will be celebrating the success of Rifco Arts Britain's Got Bhangra which stars the lovely Sophia Haque. It's a joyful look at how Bhangra became part of the UK music scene and its influences from Bollywood. Do hope you can join us and show us your Bhangra Bollywood "jhatka's & matkha".

Aruna's exposed 'Private Moments'

Your Ad Here

This stunning Brit babe has already made it to Bollywood’s popularity charts, and while everyone wants to know more about her, ZOOM has stumbled upon some little known facts about Aruna Shields. Prince is not her first movie, really. In the past she has featured in a very steamy movie called, Private Moments, which was made by Jagmohan Mundhra. Apparently, this movie was supposed to be a version of the runaway hit series Sex and the City, but meant for the UK audiences. We’re guessing it was more of the ‘sex’ and less of the ‘city’. You know what we mean — it was more love and sex, and less of dhoka. Gotit? The sexy Shields has done some pretty bold and sizzling scenes, even showing flashes of her well-toned body. Ahem! When we spoke to Mundhra, he confirmed it, “Yes, she has done this movie which was an attempt on the lines of Sex and the City. There were steamy scenes, but it was meant for the UK market. In fact, Kumar Taurani took Aruna’s contact details from me and I highly recommended her for Prince. At first, she was panicking as she didn’t know a word of Hindi, I pushed her to do it and look what she has pulled off. ” We thought Aruna would want to keep this as a lesser known secret, but when we quizzed her about it, talking from London she candidly confessed, “I have done Private Moments, it was quite a glam role for the UK market. If I get a chance to do something similar for Bollywood, I wouldn’t mind doing it at all.” Source :: http://bit.ly/ayecKk Thanks.

Sex for a role? No way, says Aruna Shields

British actress Aruna Shields, who acted with Vivek Oberoi in The Prince, gets candid about her sex appeal and working in Bollywood. Excerpts:

aruna-shields-0a images-50412 images-50413 Aruna_Shields_001_1260079599 Aruna_Shields_003_1260079599 (Click on thumbnail for enlarge and relevant posts and pics)

Is it true that you were perceived as this 'hot' actress even before the release of your first movie? Are you comfortable with the tag?
In commercial Indian cinema I think it is a good thing to be seen as attractive. Maya, my character, is a sexy, stylish, superhero... if I couldn’t be perceived as ‘hot’, I wouldn’t have got the role.

I’ve been given the opportunity by Kumar Taurani to break my glamorous stereotype in European films so it doesn’t worry me.

People talk about the infamous casting couch in Hindi films. In other words, you have to do a little bit of sleeping around to get good roles. Did you go through the same thing?
In England, I feel safe as most of the casting directors are women... so watch out, boys! There is absolutely no chance I would ever sleep with anyone to get a role. The energy I give off when I meet people in the industry reflects that. I believe they are looking for an experienced actor who is right for the role, that’s it.

But I’ve heard horror stories about people abusing their power with beginners. You have to make sure you have got your head screwed on. In any case, it is a very good banner to work with, so I didn't have to worry about anything.

Would you mind doing a lovemaking scene in Hindi films, considering that you have come from the UK film industry?
I’m totally free and not scared of doing lovemaking scenes. It would depend upon whether I liked the script and trusted the director.

Is it true that there are a lot of explicit scenes in Jag Mundhra’s film Private Moments? Is it true that the script narrated to you and what turned out in the end were different?
Private Moments
is a chick flick advertised in the press as London’s version of Sex and The City. It’s a comedy, so the steamy scenes, in context, are meant to amuse. I would also have no problems doing lovemaking scenes in a drama if I liked the script. Doing challenging scenes helps build your confidence and make you less self-aware.

Why did you land up in Bollywood? Don’t you think you have better prospects there [in the UK] than in Hindi films? Or do you want to tread both lines, as in work in both film industries?
They were looking for a new international face and held castings in London. I fit the bill and liked the idea of doing an action thriller.
I work all over the world and would like to remain an actor who crosses markets. It’s very rewarding and insightful working with so many different cultures. I love it!
